Is the Lumer Pro safe for all hair and skin types?
IPL works best on lighter skin tones with dark hair as it needs contrast between the hair and skin colour in order to work. IPL doesn't work on dark skin and blonde, red or grey hair.
Is the hair loss permanent?
As any other hair removal device, we don't guarantee 100% permanent hair loss as hair growth can reappear anytime after your treatments. This is why it is important to do maintenance treatments regularly.
You should see up to 80% hair removal following the scheduled treatment plan. When using your device, you are destroying hair follicles that are currently in the growth phase. It is possible that hairs that were not in the growth phase during treatment will still grow. This is why we recommend doing maintenance treatment once every 1-2 months as needed.
Is IPL hair removal painful?
Unlike laser hair removal, IPL or intense pulsed light hair removal is generally considered to be less painful. This is because IPL uses a multiple light wavelengths vs a single-wavelength laser. You may feel a slight tingle in sensitive areas during treatment, but it should not be painful.
What is the difference between IPL and Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal generates a single beam of a powerful, concentrated light wavelength to absorb melanin within the hair follicle. Over multiple treatment sessions, this laser energy generates heat—which progressively weakens and permanently disables the hair follicle, resulting in long-term hair reduction.
Just like laser hair removal, IPL also targets melanin to destroy hair follicles. However, unlike laser treatments that use a single wavelength, IPL utilises multiple light wavelengths to emit diffused energy, ensuring minimal to zero skin damage.
These wavelengths are delivered in continuous, consecutive pulses—resembling the effect of a camera flash. This is the technology that can be most commonly found in home use hair removal devices use for achieving long-term hair removal. While effective, IPL does not give the same lasting results that laser provides.
How often do I need to use Lumer Pro?
Our general recommendation is using Lumer Pro twice a week for the first 2-3 months to see the first results and then once every 1-2 months or as needed for touchup. There is no need to use it more than twice a week, as IPL is only effective on the hair in your active growing phase.
On which body parts can I use Lumer Pro?
The device is effective to use everywhere that hair grows, including your arms, underarms, hands, legs, chin, neck, back, and bikini line. It is not recommended to use around your eyes without protective eyewear.
